United States: Louisiana recorded the first human case of West Nile virus of this year in the victims of Livingston Parish, which was confirmed by the Louisiana Department of Health.

The individual had been admitted to the hospital owing to the later-stage effects of the infection.
According to LDH, no additional details of the patient will be published. A severe illness caused by the West Nile virus is developing in about one person in 150 individuals who become infected by the virus, and this disease can impact the brain, the spinal cord, and nerves as well, a risk that can lead to paralysis or even death (According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), as theadvocate.com reported.

By the beginning of June (2013), mosquitoes trapped on the east bank of New Orleans had been found to have the West Nile virus, and abatement measures were made in most parts of Orleans Parish.
This is at least the fourth time this year health officials have verified the virus in mosquito pools in the area, with two other detections this month and once in May.
As of today this year 2025, LDH has confirmed the virus in 14 parishes.
Louisiana recorded 57 confirmed human cases of West Nile in 2024, with three people dying, as theadvocate.com reported.
