More about the bulk order

The report suggested that on Wednesday, the company received a whopping 440,000 dose order of mpox and smallpox vaccines to be delivered to an unnamed European country.

Moreover, the company said that the order is seen as a part of Bavarian Nordic’s original 2024 guidance and would not have an impact on the remaining capacity this year, as reported by CNBC.

The WHO declaration of global emergency

The demand for vaccines has risen following the declaration by WHO to consider mpox a global public health emergency after the widespread cases occurring in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to neighboring countries.

As per the CEO Paul Chaplin, the order demands showcase an increasing acknowledgment by countries of the need of the hour to be prepared for the virus.

He said, “Since the last mpox outbreak in 2022/23, Bavarian Nordic has established a strong strategic partnership with a number of authorities that have recognized the need to improve their preparedness against smallpox and mpox,” as CNBC reported.

He also mentioned that the firm possesses the capacity to cater to almost ten million doses of vaccine demand this year, where two million of which would further be made available.
